Sophomore Peyton Matthews is not only an award-winning Honey Bear, but also a competitive dancer at Lorna Badon Legacy Dance Centre. For Matthews, dance is a big part of her life past, present, and future.
Matthews has been dancing for 13 years. She stays motivated by her drill team directors, Mikayla Wappler and Callie Choate, who always push her to work her hardest and try new things.
Matthews currently teaches young girls as a dance instructor at her dance studio and plans to continue her teaching when she one day opens her own studio.
Her biggest inspiration is her mom because she is always there for her and always knows what to do. Her mom is a big reason as to why she has been able to pursue her dreams.
Although Matthews loves dance, her favorite class this year is child development. She says her teacher, Jennifer Seago, makes the class really fun and she teaches her students responsibilities they will need for the future.
All the hard work and dedication Matthews puts into her future makes her favorite quote truly perfect for her life: “It’s never too late to rewrite your story.”
According to drill team director Mikayla Wappler, Matthews is quiet but shows her Battlin’ Bear spirit through her actions.
“She is a great student but an even better spirit leader,” Wappler said. “On the drill team, Peyton is known for ALWAYS knowing her choreography and counts. She is dependable and shines in class, on stage, and on the field.”
