Freshman Taylor Huckaby is involved in multiple activities on campus. She plays volleyball, basketball, and tennis, and she is also on the track team. She is also a member of Interact, Student Council, and her church youth group. In her free time, she loves to watch TV, play sports, sleep, and hang out with friends.
Huckaby has big goals for the future, and is intent on accomplishing them.
“I want to graduate high school in the top 10 percent with a scholarship,” she said.
Huckaby said her biggest inspiration is her mom.
“She is always there for me and does everything she can to make sure I am happy,” Huckaby said. “She supports me in everything I do.”
Her favorite quote is Matthew 6:34, as well as a quote from Tim Notke: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Huckaby said she is motivated by wanting to be the best.
“While sometimes it can be kind of exhausting, in everything I do I want to be the best at it,” she said.
Something people may not know about Huckaby is that she has a NASA membership and she collects mission patches.
“I also own a typewriter and enjoy writing letters to people,” she said.
According to Huckaby, her favorite class is Journalism.
“We always do fun projects and Mrs. Fruge is an amazing teacher,” she said.
Fruge, Huckaby’s Journalism teacher and UIL coach, said she is excited about having her as one of her yearbook students and UIL participants next year.
“Taylor has been an incredibly hard worker in my class this year,” Fruge said. “She is just an all-around great student. She does a great job of balancing sports, extra-curricular activities, and academics. Besides all that, she is just a really sweet young lady and the ideal student to have in class. She will go on to do big things in the rest of her high school career.”
