LCMHS bids farewell to one of its brightest stars as senior Christine Qi prepares to embark on an exciting new chapter of her life.
Most high school students decide where they want to go to college as soon as they can pick.
“Living in Orange for all my life,” Qi said. “I wanted to explore of what’s more out there. I want to attend college on the East Coast to expand my opportunities. I know if I don’t take on this challenge, I will regret it in my lifetime.”
Qi said getting accepted in a global prestigious school like John Hopkins proved to her that her perseverance throughout high school paid off.
“However, my academic journey does not stop here as I want to attend an even more prestigious law/ graduate school,” Qi said.
High school students are full of emotions when they are leaving for college for the first time and Qi is no exception.
“I am anxious but most importantly excited,” Qi said. “I know during rough times I will feel homesick, but knowing that I am there for a purpose will undoubtly motivate me.”
When people decide on which college they want to go to, they normally produce some backup colleges just in case they do not make it into the college they want.
“Before John Hopkins, UT was my top choice,” Qi said.
At Hopkins, Qi plans on double majoring in economics and a science major on the pre-law track.
“My biggest advice to students wanting to take a similar path is to always believe in yourself and don’t ever let others define what you can do,” Qi said.
Many high schoolers have different reasons for going to different colleges and one of those reasons is to branch out.
“I am most excited about meeting people from all corners of the globe,” Qi said.
Qi credits high school with helping her make sure she had the right education to get into her dream college.
“LCM’s rigorous coursework and varities of extracurricular has provided me an insight to college,” Qi said.
According to Qi, her siblings have been her biggest inspiration.
“My siblings and Haden Gilley, who currently attends John Hopkins,” Qi said.
Those people have helped her to get to where she is today, and Qi recognizes that where she is today is a steppingstone to her future.
“This is not the end but just the beginning to a journey of my life,” Qi said.
