Whether on the sea or at home, this graphic designer begins to get to work shuffling through millions of different graphics as he begins to create the perfect magazines- shirts- and so much more.
Graphic designer, Jordan Babcock, is a former student and LCM graduate who now works for multiple fishing companies, pursuing his life’s passion. When he attended LCM, he started out in Mrs. Fruge’s journalism class where he got introduced to design software, which he now uses every day for his career.
“My time at LCM seems like a whole different life,” Babcock said. “I have changed a lot for the better. My time there was so important to making me who I am now.”
Babcock graduated from Southern Nazarene University in 2017 majoring in graphic design.
His interest began whenever he was a member in a gaming forum. Babcock became inspired by the people who made the signatures that appeared at the bottom of the posts and decided to make his own. With the help of an online friend, he began to make his own unique signatures and made them for other people too. Thus began his love for graphic design.
With his newfound interest he eventually found a career and began to work for a company called Outdoor Brand Team that does sales in the marketing industries.
“I work from home, so I get up, hop on my laptop, and get to work,” Babcock said. “Typically, you’ll find me working on graphics for social media, catalogs, trade shows, clothing, web and print ads, newsletters, packaging, and stuff like that.”
One of the coolest moments in his career includes seeing his designs on ICAST, the largest sportfishing trade show in the world. Others include when he sees his designs in stores such as Academy or Scheels and getting in the boat with famous fishermen such as Jason Christie and Michael Neal to film videos.
When asked what type of advice he would give to students interested in pursuing a similar career, he says to be patient and always to keep improving.
“Your first job might not be your dream job (or your 2nd or your 3rd),” Babcock said. “But pay your dues and keep after it, and hopefully someday you will land a job that you love and are passionate about.”
