Position: Student Services Coordinator
Years at LCM: 28
Years teaching: 32
Q: How would other people describe your high school self?
A: Other people would describe my high school self as being quiet with my nose in a book all the time. Someone once told me that they thought I was stuck up in high school, but I was really just quiet!
Q: Was there a career you wanted to pursue or pursued before teaching?
A: I took cosmetology in high school and got my license, but it was just a backup plan. If I’m being completely honest, I just wanted to wear scrubs around campus! Teaching was the only career I wanted to pursue.
Q: Tell us about how you got into teaching.
A: I wasn’t the best student in high school. I failed Mrs. Rathburn’s U.S. History class my junior year in high school (with a 69) and had to retake it as a senior! After graduating from high school, I was embarrassed at how little I knew about history and geography, and I was ready to learn! I took several history and geography courses in college and liked them so much that I decided to be a history teacher! I should probably just say that Mrs. Rathburn “inspired” me to teach, haha.
Q: What do you do outside of school for fun?
A: I love to crochet and sew! Right now, I am learning to make memory bears out of clothes.
Q:When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
A: Probably that I like to talk.
Q: What is something you know a weird amount about that’s not related to something you teach?
A: I can’t think of a single thing that I know a weird amount about except maybe birds. If you want to know about cockatiels, come ask me.
Q: Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
A: I am proud of myself for taking the Student Services Coordinator job at the high school. I had been a history teacher for so long that it was a scary change for me. I’m happy I took the leap! I love my job and the people I work with!
Q: Who is someone you are thankful for and why.
A: I am thankful for my mother. She has always been there when I needed her. She is the most selfless, loving person I know. I don’t know what I would do without her!
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
A: I would say to relax and don’t worry so much about what others think. Just do your best and HAVE FUN!
Q: What do you hope to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as a kind and generous person.
Q: What’s on your bucket list? What aspirations do you have for the future?
A: I’m a boring person when it comes to my bucket list. I want to retire one day and enjoy spending time with my family, wherever that may be. I want to be a cookie baking grandmother!
