Freshman Madelyn Harding is a part of various extracurriculars such as Bear Believers, Interact, debate, powerlifting, and UIL academics. Outside of school she enjoys working out, painting, cooking, and working on her car.
Something many people may not know about her is that she also plays the electric guitar. Some of her current favorite songs are “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers and “Come as You Are” by Nirvana.
Harding’s biggest inspiration is her parents.
“They have always supported my goals and motivated me to do what I love,” Harding said. “They have walked me shoulder to shoulder through thick and thin. They taught me to chase my dreams.”
Her goals for the future are to attend college and explore an engineering degree. From there, she wants to enroll in the Air Force. Harding’s favorite quote is Luke 6:27-28: “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
Her favorite class this year is geometry.
“My teacher pushes us and challenges us to be better, and I’ve always just enjoyed math,” Harding said.
One of her biggest accomplishment this year is the progress she has made as a powerlifter.
“I look forward to seeing how much further I’ll go next season,” she said.
According to Harding’s debate coach Elise Fountain, she has always been willing to try new things.
“When others were afraid to go to tournaments, she was always willing to step up,” Fountain said. “She is one of the few students who has attempted each type of debate at least once. She researches and works hard to make sure she is competitive, and she gives it her all. Her work ethic is admirable.”
