Becca Peveto was recently awarded the honor of 2023 Girls Track Coach of the Year by the Southeast Texas Coaches Association. Peveto was nominated by an area coach, then received the most votes from other coaches out of all the nominations. In the spring of 2022, Peveto and her girls track team won the district championship.
“I’d like to thank my track girls; they are the reason for this,” Peveto said. “Second, my family (my parents, brothers, and my very supportive husband)—they have always supported me in everything I do.”
Coaching is Peveto’s dream job that she claims has changed her life immensely for the better.
“I was told by my dad years ago that ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life,'” Peveto said. “I am living the dream on the daily, and I’m so incredibly blessed to get to wake up every day and do what I do.”
Peveto’s immediate thought when she was informed about the award was if she could fit all of the girls’ names on the plaque.
“I love the relationships built with these kids, and there is no better thing to see (as a coach) than watching your babies succeed…not only in sports, but in life beyond sports,” Peveto said. “I honestly feel that they are the ones who deserve it because without them, this would not have ever happened.”
Peveto could not be more excited to see what all her team achieves this track season and is thankful for everyone who supports them. She accredits the award to her team and all the other coaches who have mentored her.
“It is always so much fun to see kids achieve things they didn’t even know were possible,” Peveto said. “Personal bests, breaking records, and seeing them win District are hands down among my favorite coaching moments. I still consider myself new to the track world, but there is no other world I’d rather be in.”
