Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment and is one of the many endorsements the high school offers. Cosmetology teacher Kim Quebodeaux has been helping her students and program flourish and the fall semester of 2023 has been one for the books.
“We’ve had plenty of highlights this year,” Quebodeaux said. “My freshmen did nail art for Halloween. My seniors were able to go to a hair show. My juniors participated in a toy drive for the Sabine House and helped with hair and makeup too.”
The cosmetology students were also able to compete in the Kiwanis Club of Orange Christmas Parade and won first place for best school float.
“Decorating the Christmas float for our parade and getting to be on it was my favorite activity this year,” junior Janniliz Nazario said. “It was a really fun experience.”
Projects inside the lab range from nails to facials to haircuts. Students must get the first year of book work out of the way until they can reach the lab in their second year for hands-on learning.
“I enjoy doing hair the most out of all the things we do,” sophomore Alexia Wright said. “I have always wanted to do hair. I love getting my hair done so I have wanted to do it for a while.”
The students themselves have stood out plenty this year, as well. According to Quebodeaux, senior Allie Jo Smith has been a great leader this year and has done a wonderful job at getting the group to work together.
“I am currently the president of the cosmetology program,” Smith said. “I hope my sense of leadership and responsibility will project into my future.”
