Seniors Jordyn Struwe and Caden Steiert have been working at The Pink Rooster, a local boutique, for two to four months now and have come to love the environment around them filled with custom t-shirts and welcoming employees. Pink Rooster is known for its creativity and polite customer service from its workers.
“My favorite part about working at Pink Rooster is the positive work environment and my coworkers who are now like family to me,” Struwe said.
According to both students, there can be many challenges managing school and work together, but staying motivated and using time management effectively to keep schoolwork at school and not let it intervene with work it can be possible to maintain both school and a job.
“Keep work away from school and school away from work,” Struwe said.
A normal shift at the Pink Rooster for Struwe and Steiert looks like organizing the storefront, shirt printing, rearranging displays, and helping wherever needed. Motivation and hard work help get these done, whether that motivation is the people surrounding them or their future ahead.
“I tell myself that I need to save money for college,” Steiert said. “I focus on the idea that work does not have to be a chore; I try to enjoy it.”
Although they both enjoy working at Pink Rooster, they both have varied reasons for joining the Pink rooster team. Steiert wanted to work somewhere neat and in a place that stands out to him but for Struwe, she wanted more of something that fulfilled all her requirements to work with her busy schedule.
“I was looking for a job that fulfilled all my aspirations of a healthier work environment and that was more fitting to my busy lifestyle,” Struwe said. “Pink Rooster checked off all of those boxes.”

Balancing work and school isn’t easy – and good work ethic and a local business that hires students make it manageable. I’m really proud of Jordyn!
