Sophomore Derek Lopez loves to be involved where he can. He is involved in Student Council, Interact, cross country and track. Some of Lopez’s favorite hobbies are running, listening to music, and going to church.
One of Lopez’s goals for the future is to become a teacher. Some of his biggest inspirations are his mom and dad because of their unconditional love and support. Some of his biggest accomplishments are becoming Student Council treasurer, running as part of the cross country team, and being named Bear of the Week.
Lopez’s favorite quote is from his mom: “Life is full of choices; try to make the best of them.”
Someone who motivates Lopez is his best friend Allyson Welch, who runs cross country with him. Something some people may not know about Lopez is that he lived in Montana for the first seven years of his life. He does not have a favorite class because he enjoys learning and having fun in all of his classes.
“I would like to say thank you to the teachers that have nominated me to become Bear of the Week and to all my friends that are helping me get through this crazy journey called high school,” Lopez said.
According to history teacher Elise Fountain, Lopez is an amazing student who is patient with everyone.
“He works hard and helps anyone,” she said. “He just has a great attitude at all times.”
