Bear of the Week: Luke McDow
December 4, 2022
Junior Luke McDow is active in many school organizations, including Bear Believers, football, and Interact. Outside of school, he is active in his church and coaching Upward. One of his favorite hobbies is playing sports, mainly football. He plays linebacker and has been playing since the second grade.
His future goals are to further his education in college, continue to play football, and to strengthen his faith in God. McDow’s biggest inspiration has always been his mother.
“She is the strongest person I know,” McDow said.
According to McDow, his mother, grandmother, teammates, and Coach Peevey all motivate him to be better. He is also motivated by the prospect of failure.
A quote that he lives by is, Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.”
McDow said some of his biggest achievements in high school have been being named as a Star Student and selected to be on Homecoming Court.
According to AP English III teacher Jill Shugart, she has enjoyed having McDow as a student in her class.
“It is a joy to teach Luke because of his work ethic and respectful, positive attitude,” Shugart said. “I honestly don’t believe that I have ever seen him in a bad mood in my class. He truly is a joy to teach!”
