This Saturday, Oct. 26 is the opening night of “Little Shop of Horrors,” a musical to be performed by LCM students. Auditions for the musical were open to students outside of Theatre Productions and according to Theatre Director Ashley Dennison, she would like to try to do a multi-department show every other year from this point on.

According to Dennison, auditioning for this musical meant having to sing and dance on top of acting. Those who auditioned had to learn a few of the songs and read a few lines from several scenes.

“We had about 20 students audition (which is perfect for this type of musical) and I was absolutely blown away,” Dennison said. “Several of them had never performed at all and many have taken on this show with determination and drive.”

Dennison said she is excited to see the whole show put together after having only two weeks to prepare, because of Tropical Storm Imelda. This musical was performed once before in 1993, so she is excited to pay homage to that troupe.

Dennison said that even though she is worried about anything tech-related going wrong, the show must go on, and she just wants the audience and the performers to have fun and enjoy.

After opening night this Saturday, the musical will also be performed on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
