Student section gains newfound spirit

The LCM student body has more spirit than ever this year.

Walking down the halls of the school this year, there is a different atmosphere than ever before and the school spirit is practically palpable. There are more people dressing up on school dress up days, there are new movements for more generosity, and the biggest change is the student section at sporting events. It’s a well-known fact that the student section is not only an extension of the spirit that grows in the hallways of the school, but also a representation of the school body as a whole.

A student section is a section of the stands at any extracurricular event that is specified for the use of the students. The school spirit in a student section is extremely necessary for the success of it; thankfully, the LCM student body has exceptional spirit and pride for the school. At an event, the students gather together in the stands to gain more momentum and to cheer on the team as a school body. The students will dress in school attire, use green and gold paints, and even glitter to show their school spirit.

“I think a lot of people pitch in to lead the student section, including the Grizzly Crew and seniors,” senior Caroline Guayante said. “I just want to help get the crowd involved.”

The student section at any school event is a support group for all of the extracurricular activities. The students are led by a group called the Grizzly Crew, who lead the cheers and chants from the student section. Eventually, the students will learn and lead cheers and chants on their own. Whenever the football team scores a touchdown, the students on the Crew will run flags that have the letters for LCM and encourage spirit and noise from the students.

“All of us lead it,” junior Grizzly Crew member Jayden Wilson said. “All the kids look forward to getting to cheer on the players.”

The school wants to be seen as worthy competition, but LCM also wants the reputation of having the most spirit for the school. The students may be different in many ways, but they are all alike in one way – pride for their school.

“It’s really cool to see a lot of schools trying to do what we’re doing,” senior Eli Ridout said. “It’s nice to know we set the bar so high.”

The best part of the student section, from the students’ perspective, is the spirit, energy, and encouragement for the school whether we win or lose. There is constant cheering, uplifting, and belief in the team that is encouraged on by the student section. The Bears compete not only to win, but to bring pride to their school by showing the talent they’ve worked so hard towards building.

“It’s pretty clear that we aren’t there to win,” senior Grizzly Crew member Kelsey Dyson said. “We’re there to support our Bears. Win or lose, we’ll support them wholeheartedly.”
