The Lady Bear Volleyball team is starting the 2018-2019 school year off with a strong district record and is working toward playoffs later this season. The team will finish their season on Oct. 23 with a game against Silsbee.

The team has a current district record of 6-3 with a big win against Bridge City last week and another win against the WOS Lady Mustangs last night. The team plans to move forward in the season with hard work, dedication, and teamwork.

“Teamwork is the most important thing in volleyball,” senior Raley Broussard said. “We have team dinners every Thursday and the team has traditions before every game.”

The volleyball team practices every day that they do not have a game. During practice, the volleyball participate in more than drills and scrimmages; they also dedicate time toward bettering the relationship of the team on and off the court.

“We have days where we take a break from the game and do other fun activities as a team,” senior Krystal Lester said. “We go to a water park once every year, we watch inspirational movies as a team, and other days we just play silly games with a little bit of competition to bond with each other.”

The Lady Bears gain more than athletic ability and skills in the school program; they also learn how to work together with a group of people towards a common goal. The girls learn dedication, hard work, and teamwork in personal life and in a sport.

“The best part of being a player on the school volleyball team is playing with friends who are like family to me,” junior Caitlin Woods said. “I’ve learned to put my teammates before me and the joy of all of your hard work paying off.”

The Lady Bears will return to action this Friday, Oct. 19 when they host Hamshire-Fannett in the Grove gym.
