Junior Julia Iles was recently recognized for her high SAT score.

Junior Julia Iles received an invitation to join the National Hispanic Recognition program because her SAT score was within the top 2.5 percent of Hispanic and Latino individuals in her area.

The SAT is a test that analyzes one’s knowledge gained through education to show colleges and organizations his or her readiness for college and give an idea of one’s intellectual success.

“An invitation into the NHRP will make my college applications look more appealing and hopefully influence schools to offer me greater scholarships,” Iles said.

According to Iles, she is hoping to attend Lamar University in Beaumont after graduating from high school, but said she is open to different colleges.

“I plan on majoring in either psychology or computer science in college,” Iles said. “I would like to get a job working as a clinical psychologist in a research program.”

To help her prepare for the SAT during the summer, Iles’ mom assigned her different sections to work through in a book designed to study for the SAT.

“My biggest goal in the near future is to raise my SAT score to a 1360 so that I can apply for the Lamar Mirabeau scholarship,” Iles said. “My family has definitely been a huge help in my success today and I am thankful for God’s blessings in my life.”
