Sophomores Chelsea Perry (left) and Zoe Levens (right) will embark on a trip to Washington this summer.

Sophomores Chelsea Perry and Zoe Levens were two of 250 students in the U.S. selected to participate in the Washington Youth summit on the Environment June 25-30. The Summit is a hands-on, interactive program that provides America’s highest-achieving high school students with an interest in the environment, conservation and sustainability, and with the desire to explore careers in the fields of environmental science, conservation, policy, and law and engineering.

When Perry and Levens arrive in Washington, they will get to visit the Smithsonian National Zoo, the White House, the World War II Museum, Korean Museum, and the Lincoln Memorial. This in an opportunity that will impact both Perry and Levens’ academic futures.

“This will give me leadership qualities,” Levens said. “[I’m most excited] to go to the Smithsonian National Zoo.”

Levens said she and her family are planning to take a road trip up to Washington when the time comes this summer.

“I’m just excited and blessed to have this opportunity,” Levens said.

Perry will travel to Washington with her parents this summer. They will join the Summit group to get a behind-the-scenes view of the special faculties and laboratories, and they will also participate in special activities with researchers, scientists, directors, and staff.

“This will give me great opportunities to get an inside look at the field of environmental science,” Perry said. “I am looking forward to this great experience!”
