Choir to perform Christmas concert
December 5, 2017
The choir will hold its Christmas concert at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 7 in the auditorium. The concert will feature classic Christmas carols such as ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas,’ ‘Carol of the Bells,’ and ‘Breath of Heaven,’ sung by the Treble Choir, Tenor/Bass Choir, Chamber Choir, and Pop Choir.
This will be the choir’s first concert of the year. They have been practicing for the concert since November and are excited to show their audience all of their hard work.
“I’m excited about this concert because it is the first of the year,” senior Abbey Brown said. “It is the first time we get to show off what we’ve been working on. I’ve prepared for the concert by practicing and listening to the music many times.”
As the choir has prepared, their skills have grown and impressed choir teacher Nikki Hanson.
“All the students have impressed me as we have been preparing, but my Treble Choir has really impressed me in our preparation time,” Hanson said. “They are a great group of young ladies who as their confidence has grown, so has their singing. With the challenge of seeing students every other day, they had to work hard to learn notes, rhythms, and words to all be sung by memory. Even though this is the case, they pushed through and I am excited to hear from each group. I believe the audience members will enjoy this night celebrating the season.”
Brown said shes enjoys choir because the members and director make it feel like a family, which makes the hard work easier.
“I enjoy working with all the students,” Hanson said. “We are a family and it’s not always about singing. We laugh and cry together. Working to create and accomplish something together and seeing it happen is a wonderful thing.”
The choir has set goals for this upcoming concert in order to put on the best performance as possible for their audience.
“My goal is to give the community a good show and an enjoyable night to start off the holidays,” Brown said.
Although challenges have risen in the community while preparing for the concert, the choir has worked diligently to help people overcome them.
“Our community has been hit hard by the hurricane,” Hanson said. “People are tired, overwhelmed, and some are still emotionally drained. We hope they will be able to escape that for a moment in time and take away some joy and happiness for this holiday season.”
