Chris Boaz Rises as a Rockstar

C. Boaz

Junior Chris Boaz is no stranger to the stage.

There are many talented musicians at LCM, one of which is junior Chris Boaz. As well as playing bass drum for the Battlin’ Bear Band and bass guitar for jazz band, Boaz has his own band titled “Atlas,” which began in 2009. The genre of this music is considered metal core, which is basically a fusion of metal and hardcore punk.

“It’s a great way to let anger and stress out,” Boaz said. His band currently has an EP out called “Of Ashes We Rose” and they just finished recording their first full-length record, “Wake Me When I’m Famous” a few weeks ago.

“We’re looking to release it in late 2013 or early 2014,” Boaz said.

So far, Atlas has played gigs in Beaumont, Houston, and in Lake Charles, LA.

The band consists of Jay Espinosa on vocals, Jess Espinosa on drums, Josh Herron on lead guitar, and Boaz on bass. Recently, the band’s rhythm guitarist quit. As a result, the band is searching for someone to take on this role.

“At the moment we’re focused on recruiting a new guitarist, teaching him all the songs, and getting our record out there,” Boaz said.

When asked about the difficulties of producing a record, Boaz said, “I respect bands a lot more now, because I realize how hard it is to put music out there.”

The most exciting part of this whole experience is the fact that Atlas will be touring soon. According to Boaz, it’s just a matter of when.

“I’m most excited to travel the country and play for lots more people,” he said. “This has been my dream for as long as I can remember. The fact that I’m actually getting the chance to follow it is awesome.”
