The Lady Bears will play the Lady Pirates in Vidor this Friday at 7 p.m.

With nine seniors leading the way, the Lady Bear Volleyball team is looking forward to a great 2013 season, filled with many wins and lots of hard work. According to head coach Vicki Castino, the team’s biggest goal this year is to win District and make it to State. She feels the team is ready and experienced enough to achieve these goals, and has several leaders who will keep the team motivated.

“To be a leader, you need to be someone who communicates and talks on and off the court,” Castino said. “We were young last year and now we’re experienced and ready to take on the challenge.”

According to senior Kinsey Tanner, some of the strongest leaders of the team are fellow seniors Dayja Arnold and Jade Piper.

“They lead the team on the court in a positive direction and bring out the best in all our players,” Tanner said.

With every new season comes certain obstacles the team will have to overcome, including tough opponents the Lady Bears will face in District play.

“Our biggest challenge this year will be the Lumberton Lady Raiders and we will prepare to beat them by continuing to practice hard and stay focused,” Tanner said.

The Lady Bears’ next match-up is this Friday against the Lady Pirates in Vidor at 7 p.m.
