Sophomore Annabelle Fisher shows off her seventh place medal from the Regional meet. She will run at the State meet next week.

Sophomore Annabelle Fisher is gearing up to compete at the State cross country meet in Round Rock next Tuesday, Nov. 24. She had a season full of wins after placing first at the district meet and then seventh at the Regional meet with a time of 12:50.

Fisher said her goals for this season were to finish in the top three at district and to make it to state – both of which were accomplished.

“This season was so much fun,” Fisher said. “I met all my goals and I really enjoyed having a full girls team to run with.”

She has been working consistently for months to prepare for this level of competition, even running on the days when she does not have practice. Fisher said she enjoys running in general, but also loves the thrill of the competition.

“I love the start of the race and the end because it is the most competitive part of the race,” she said. “And it can can also determine your placement.”

According to Fisher, qualifying for State is exciting because it is what she has always wanted and worked toward. Cross country can be a grueling sport, but for her, it is so worth it.

“During a long race I keep myself going by reminding myself that I am almost done and the pain is only temporary,” she said. “People always think that cross country is so boring, but it can actually be a lot of fun.”
